FREE NECKLACE

While checking one of my favorite blogs this morning, I saw her post about a beautiful free necklace offered by Caroline G.! Naturally I checked out Caroline's Facebook page and subsequently her online store. She is currently offering a free necklace with the code YAY, and it seriously took me 10 seconds to decide I needed one in coral. I also bought one of her yellow bubble necklaces because I've been obsessed with the J Crew original since it came out, and her version is just as wonderful + way more affordable!

So if you're dying to add some adorable necklaces to your jewelry collection, I highly suggest heading to Caroline's shop and picking up at least 1 free one, if not 3 or 4 more :)

Yes I know this post has nothing whatsoever to do with calligraphy, but I can't help spread the word when I find great deals on ridiculously cute jewelry!

WEEKEND, I LOVE YOU

It's FRIDAY!

I am currently working on a very large order of envelopes (and will continue this weekend), so I don't have any pictures just yet. Instead, I'm going to leave you with something that makes me laugh every single time I read it.

NEW STAMPS

I am patiently  impatiently waiting for my new stamps to arrive. I ordered a "to","from", and "thank you" stamp for starters just to test them out before taking orders and ordering more. I hope they turn out as beautiful as my Initial Stamp. Once I love them I'm going to put them in my shop and take orders through there, as well as via Facebook and this blog!

Some projects I am currently working on -- envelopes using my dip pens (LOVE), gold ink place cards on beautiful textured cardstock, a couple of custom stamp orders, and I'm finally sending out my latest project today that I am eager to post on here. Once my friend's get their gift, I'll be putting it on here so fast!

CUSTOM INITIAL STAMP

I am so excited to introduce my newest addition to my Etsy shop -- custom circular initial stamp. It's mounted on a beautiful wood base that has an engraved picture of the stamp. You can have up to 3 letters, and they are seriously perfect for stamping tags, stationary, letters, journals, you name it! They're only $10.00 each so head to my shop and get stamping!

CALLIGRAPHY ON EVERYTHING

One of my favorite things I've learned since starting calligraphy is that it can literally go on anything! That last picture is calligraphy on pieces of driftwood instead of place cards -- how genius! I've already explored putting my calligraphy on glasses like the first picture (more on that exciting project later), and am itching to make calligraphy as vinyl decals to be put on notebooks, jars, and other fun items. Once you have a vector image or jpg file of the calligraphy, it's not hard to think up the numerous possibilities for the art. If you have suggestions for my next "non-traditional" item to put calligraphy on, I would love to hear it!

DIY

If you are getting married and are looking for ways to save money, I would suggest making your own wooden signs! Wooden signs have become increasingly popular for weddings, and they aren't that difficult to make yourself. I made the signs above for a client, and all it took was wood, stain, paint, and a sealing finish. For a DIY person, this a perfect excuse to have your fiance help with the wedding preparations!

Have a great weekend!

A FIRST

I was asked to address my first envelope to the President! I was so excited... nerdy, I know. It is a really cool feeling to me knowing that he might possibly see my calligraphy, although I am sure it actually goes to an assistant. I don't have to know that though.

MERCI BEAUCOUP

I have added a new set of thank you notecards in my Etsy shop! Right now there are limited quantities available, but if there is a lot of interest I would love to offer more. I personally think these are the cutest little note cards, super easy to jot a quick thank you on. I am probably going to offer these in gold as well sometime in the near future!

FAVORITE CALLIGRAPHERS

I have admired these calligraphers for a long time, and I always go back to them for inspiration. Their level of talent is incredible!

ENGAGEMENT MUGS

These engagement mugs were designed for my sister's friend. It took me a surprisingly long time to get them to look how I wanted, and I definitely took full advantage of the fact that I could wipe off the paint before it dried if I made a mistake (and there were plenty, trust me). Despite the many re-dos, I love how they turned out in the end.

DIP PENS

I am officially in love with dip pens and ink. Aside from their efficiency and ease, I love watching the ink pool on the paper and how it looks shiny even after it dries. There is something extremely satisfying about feeling raised ink on an envelope instead of just seeing it. Once I perfect my calligraphy styles with my new nibs, I am never going back to pens!

PLANT YOUR OWN GARDEN

I spent Sunday night writing out this beautiful poem by Veronica Shorffstall called "Comes the Dawn." A friend of mine requested this piece for someone close to her that just got out of a long relationship. I chose a navy blue cardstock with white ink, one of my personal favorite combinations! I love having free reign over a project. I got to use a new nib and play with different fonts before settling on this messy, but controlled script.

WELCOME

Brown Fox Calligraphy started in 2012 after many years of sketching letters, drawing pictures, and being passionate about art. I began with wedding escort cards, and now offer a range of products covering all aspects of a wedding or special event personalized with hand calligraphy by me.

I currently live in San Francisco, but am originally from Northern Virginia. I have loved developing my own signature styles of calligraphy since I opened up my Etsy shop, and plan on continuing to grow as a calligrapher and small business owner for many years!

Welcome!
